Abandonment
Scripture: Proverbs 3:1-14
God refers to us as his SONS, a term of endearment, but also a term of distinction. It makes a difference between those who belong to Him and those who do not! He is giving us (those who belong to Him) a charge as to what happens, what will be the benefits of keeping His commandments, His laws, as Jesus simply stated in Matthew 22:37-40 to the Pharisees who were trying to trick Him: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind (intellect)" – the most important and first commandment - as stated in Deut. 6:5. "And you shall love your neighbors as (you do) yourself" ( Lev.19:18). These two commandments sum up and upon them depends all the Law and the prophets. HEART: seat of feeling and depth of feeling; insides; your inner nature; core; essential content or middle. God knows ALL of that we think so there’s no tricking Him. Benefits: Length of days, long life and peace, favor and good understanding in the sight of God and man.
What should we do to achieve these blessings? Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths (Proverbs 3:5).
I want to introduce to you a new concept: ABANDONMENT! When you abandon your total existence to God, you will come to realize that you are in God’s immediate will and to regard that everything that comes your way as being from the hand of God. This means that we cast off all our selfish cares in order to be altogether at His divine disposal. Matthew 6:34, clearly tells us to abandon or “Take therefore no thought for the morrow for your heavenly Father knoweth that you have need of these things.” This also means that we must give up the external and the internal things, placing them on God. If, at times, you are challenged to think about yourself, FORGET YOURSELF, and think only of HIM! SURRENDER yourself to be led, and disposed of as God pleases in respect to your outward and inward state. In Colossians 3:9-12 (Amplified), verse 12 summarizes that passage: "Clothe yourselves therefore, as (God’s own picked representatives,) His own chosen ones, (who are) purified and holy and well-beloved (by God Himself), by putting on behavior marked by tenderhearted pity and mercy, kind feelings, a lowly opinion of yourselves, gentle ways, (and) patience – which is tireless, long-suffering and has the power to endure whatever comes, with good temper."
